Hans van wijk

It seems like ages ago when Hans and me first met, sharing some Moroccan tea, infused with way too much sugar, while overlooking a beautiful right-hand pointbreak delivering the goods. We were sat outside on the deck of a beautiful l’auberge in a little fisherman’s village called Imsouane. This place is famous among surfers for the long mellow rights bending around the headland and rolling into the magic bay, and the relaxed lifestyle that comes with it, bread and hashies for days. As many things in life, it started off with a simple ‘how are the waves looking?’, but it was quickly obvious that we’d become good friends for the years to come. Not only was I amazed by the smile and beautiful hair of this young man, but his presence brought a certain contentedness to the conversation which stayed with me to this day. Now, several years and encounters later, we meet again. But this time online, while Hans is in his home in the beautiful Guethary and I am sat at my desk in the sunny Lisboa.

From photographing surfers in the South-West of France to strong black and white imagery of travels in India and Myanmar, Hans touches many different emotions with his pictures. He gives a modern twist to the old photo documentary style mixed with a fresh look on the world we live in.
