Colombia’s concrete jungle

An abundance of empanadas, cervezas and good company. A quick glimpse into a day skating in Medellin with local boys Andres Zuluaga, Pablo Sepulveda, Joan, and our homie Matteo (Noisetapes) on the camcorder.

Upon embarking on my trip to Colombia, I did something I had never done before. In a time where being in contact over social media seems more popular than a good real-life conversation, swimming against the current seems like a radical thing to do. That’s why, which is maybe not too smart for an upcoming clothing brand, we try to distance ourselves from it as much as possible. But as it turns out, engaging through it and reaching out to people that inspire you, might not be the worst thing to do. Anyway fast-forward, one night I ended up stumbling on an Instagram account of a Colombian skater, named Andres Zuluaga (Befreeee__), the name says it all. Next moment you know, Andres and me meet up at the first ever skate spot in Medellin, located in the western part of El Poblado. Just like every Colombian I met, he introduces himself smiling, we hug each other, and just like that, we’re homies. Soon we get joined by some of his other friends, with whom he’s filming a video part that’s about to drop in one of the upcoming weeks. Just like Andres, they are all some absolute legends, telling me stories about growing up in Medellin, the strong connection between skating and creativity there, and the love they have for their city. On the way back, we skate through the streets of Medellin, a concrete jungle surrounded by mountains, a beautiful chaos is what I like to call it.

Arriving back at the hostel, I sat myself on the rooftop terrace, beer in the hand, face pretty burned, happy. This is all we want to reach with our brand, getting to meet people and building a community of a bunch of homies, doing what they love and helping each other create. Oh yes, and sell some clothes as well from time to time.

Here some photos of the boys ripping it up.
